These mother carts are towed in a train (a vehicle pulling multiple mother carts).
As the train stops at each assembly station, the appropriate daughter cart is unloaded and left at the station. Workers can use the parts directly from the daughter cart. The empty carts are picked up on the return trip for restocking as well.

In an automotive manufacturing plant, a mother cart might carry three daughter carts, each filled with different parts (e.g., bolts, panels, wiring kits). A worker can detach a daughter cart at the station where those parts are needed, while the mother cart moves on with the remaining carts.
