Reasons for the Popularity of the Modern Mother Daughter Cart

Thirty years ago, the idea of an industrial Mother Daughter cart was just being formulated. Ed Brown (founder of Topper Industrial) who holds many patents for cart delivery design and mechanisms was one of the first few to re-design and improve the design with the ever changing industrial world.  In the era of Fork Truck Free initiatives to improve safety and eliminate wasted trips back and forth throughout the plant, the main feature that makes the Mother Daughter carts so popular is the ability to easily decouple (and couple) the other carts when delivering material. Daughter carts can be easily loaded and unloaded.

Before Brown developed these best performing train of delivery carts, each cart had to be decoupled. A cart from the line of carts to deliver material required disconnection from the cart in front and back. While better than making multiple fork truck trips back-and-forth, each decoupling and coupling was more time consuming. The old string (train) of carts required operators to move the material on that cart placing contents on the production line to which it was being delivered. The old method meant after delivering goods operator had to hook the two loose carts back in form of the train. Brown concluded there must be a better way and invented the Wheels on the Ground Mother Daughter cart.

While the first generation of Mother Daughter carts were a great improvement, they too had limitations. Earlier Mother Daughter carts used a ramp to load daughters; they had to be pushed up into a Mother Cart frame. The force required to push those early daughter carts was significant. The design was very restricting and could only handle light loads.

These advanced engineering and fabrication industrial carts have resulted in a durable, lean, efficient, and ergonomically Mother Daughter cart system. This affordable and load-customized for part transportation needs, eliminates the unsafe breakdowns common with other cart systems on the market.

Just as all five of Ed Brown’s adult children represent the next generation of Topper Industrial, the recent fast-growing popularity of the new Topper Industrial Mother Daughter cart technology has eliminated the ramp and force to engage the daughter cart into the frame. This new design in totality is patent pending from frame, mechanisms, Walk Through, Side Utilization, and variety of Daughter Carts each representing the next generation of Ed Brown’s initial idea.
